Speedo® Swimmers Dominated the 75th UAAP Swimming Championships!

One of the most memorable collegiate swimming competitions, the 75th UAAP Swimming Championships concluded last Sunday, September 30, 2012 at the Trace Aquatic Sports Complex. The event made history with a record number of promising performances from its swimmer participants.
Teams in Speedo® dominated the podium and bagged the overall championship titles. Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) went home with back-to-back championship titles in the Men’s and Boys’ divisions. The Ateneo Boys team is ruling the category for 8 straight years. The University of the Philippines Varsity Swim Team (UPVST) was awarded their 4th successive triumph in the Women’s division. The University of the East Swim Team (UE) on the other hand, took home the Girls’ Championship trophy, proving their lead for the 2nd time.
In the individual senior events, Ateneo freshman Axel Ngui dominated his 7 races with 6 gold and a silver medal while setting 3 new UAAP records at the 800m, 400m and 200m Freestyle events making him this season’s Rookie of the Year. Season 74 UAAP Swimming’s MVP Johansen Aguilar of De La Salle Green Tankers (DLSU) defended his title ruling all his races with gold finales and breaking records at the 200m and 100m Backstroke as well as Enchong Dee’s 3-year old 400m Individual Medley’s best time. Swimmer Delia Cordero of UP showed a very remarkable performance winning both Rookie of the Year and Most Valuable Player awards, which was an exceptionally rare occasion in UAAP Swimming history. She concluded with 2 records under her belt at the 400m Individual Medley and 200m Butterfly.
With 22 records broken this season, the crowd went wild cheering for their favorite swimmers that they exclaimed, “These kids hate records, they keep on breaking them!” But no one was prouder than the coaches themselves, who were very happy with the swimmer’s performances especially Ateneo Coach Archie Lim who was overwhelmed with the back-to-back championships of his team, “I’m really proud of my team, they worked hard for this.”
